Talk:Devil's coup
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The description of this coup seems confused to me. It states, "Spades are trumps and the lead is in dummy: The ♥3 is lead." This makes East, with the Q 4 of spades, the declarer. Then it says, "If East declines to ruff high then declarer ruffs and cashes the Ace and King" which is a statement that denies East is declarer and states that North or South are declarer. You see the mis-statement? Possibly the seat of the declarer should be mentioned very early in an otherwise fine article. Terryeo 19:10, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
I don't follow your logic - the 3 of hearts is led from dummy - this is not trick one so dummy is allowed to make the lead. This makes dummy North and declarer South. The rest follows. Still, I've made it slightly clearer. Feel free to just edit it if you think it could be improved. Cambion 15:01, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

- Opp, this statement I just made doesn't make sense.Terryeo 12:08, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- The 3 under discussion is the spade and the heart suit is not pictured nor under discussion. "The lead is in dummy". Good fine. Which position is dummy? Well, it goes on to tell us. The spade 3 is led. Since we already know the lead is in dummy and the spade three is led, then we know that seat which is holding the spade 3 is the dummy. "The lead is in dummy". Good, now the dummy will lead because the lead is in dummy. Okay, good. What card is led? The spade 3 is led. Therefore East is dummy and has led the spade 3. Terryeo 11:59, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Sorry about that. There is a confusion on the page and I got wrapped around it. The lead. "The lead is in dummy" which is the North seat. That seat which has the lead, leads. Okay, good, what card is led from the North hand? Well, the 3 of spades is led. Well, if the 3 of spades is led, then the lead is not in the North Hand because the 3 of spades has been led from the West hand. Therefore the lead is in the West hand.Terryeo 12:08, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- Erm, doesn't 3♥ denote the three of hearts rather than spades?Duja 14:06, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- Also, for reader's convenience, in contract bridge diagram convention South is always the declarer and North is dummy. Duja 14:10, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yep, yep, yep. I haven't edited the article but simply changing the spade 3 to the heart 3 makes the article accurate and understandable. Terryeo 00:25, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
