From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This image is a map of Devonport Dockyard, England, in 1909, from the book Dock Book, June 1909, published by the British Admiralty "For the Information of Officers in H. M. Service Only.". The scan is from WW1 Archive.

This image is asserted to be GFDL. As a Crown Copyright work published in 1909 the book is in the public domain. The scan appears to be a mechanical conversion of a public domain work, a process which is not sufficient to create a new copyright under US law because it lacks creative input.

The derived work had the following operations performed on it:

  • Choice of cropping range.
  • Movement of caption to selected place.
  • Editing and movement of scale to new location.
  • Background editing to smooth color transitions.
  • Compass rose scaling, choice and repositioning..
  • Choice of color correction to remove effect of aging on the original scan.
  • Choice of operations to reduce color depth.
  • Selecton of tools and techniques to maximally compress the final PNG image.

Pngout variations didn't improve on optipng max for this image.

This is the original image from which this one was derived:
