Devante

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Devante is an American R&B singer, songwriter, record producer and multi-instrumentalist from Modesto, CA.

His first album, 'Ready or Not' was released on Tripplatinum Entertainment in 2003 to moderate consumer fanfare, though the album ultimately went under the radar of the mainstream media due to the lack of major label investments and marketing. Singles off of the debut effort included "Unconditional (Thankful pt. II)," and "Assumptions (Remix)," which was originally featured on Universal/Interscope Records' Farmclub in 2000. The album version was a re-recorded and re-released version.

His sophomore album, entitled 'The Foundation' was released on February 20th, 2007. Originally scheduled for a Valentine's Day release, the album had to be pushed back due to distributor time constraints and media campaigning. The album features 14 tracks, and is led by the singles "Nobody Knows," and "Where You Are." The music video for "Nobody Knows" was shot in Modesto, and directed by film and video director Sequoia B.

Devante is sometimes confused with Donald DeGrate, aka DeVante Swing, though there are clear distinctions between the two. Note the capitalization of the 'V' in the latter, as well as the capacity in which the two exist. DeVante Swing was a producer and musician for R&B group Jodeci in the early 1990s, while Devante is a solo recording artist. Devante is also much younger than DeVante Swing, who is 37. It should also be mentioned that there also exists a 'Devonte' who is a member of the Kingston, Jamaica based reggae group "Tanto Metro & Devonte."
