Devajyoti Ray (born 1974) is one of India’s well known younger generation artists who had been variously described as the most promising among the new generation of artists of India. Ray comes from a Bengali family though he had his childhood education at various places, an experience which brought into his art a rare variety of symbolism, folk traditions, and metaphor. Ray had started his foray into the art world with collages and then gradually shifted to other forms of art. However Ray came to forefront of avant garde art by his stunning set of Pseudorealistic works in acrylic, which have been exhibited at many major galleries and have been appreciated both within and outside India. Pseudorealism of Ray involves the playing of offbeat colours in unrealistic fashion and yet creating a comprehendible realistic imagery.

Ray is also credited with giving the word Pseudorealism which was once coined as a derogatory connotation in the context of film-criticism, a respectablily in the context of high-art.
