Deutschland-Preis

The Deutschland-Preis (or Deutschlandpreis) is a Group 1 flat horse race in Germany for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 2,400 metres (approximately 1 mile 4 furlongs) at Düsseldorf Racecourse, Düsseldorf in June / July. Since its inception in 1888, the race has been run at various distances.

The inaugural event was run as the Grosser Preis von Berlin at Berlin's Hoppegarten Racecourse and was won by Durchganger. From 1909 until 1933 (there was no race in 1915) it was run at Berlin's Grunewald racetrack before returning to Hoppegarten from 1933 to 1944. The race was run as the Grosser Preis von Reichshauptstadt from 1937 until 1944. The event was not held in either 1945 or 1946, after which it was renamed the Grosser Preis von Nordrhein-Westfalen and moved to its present home in Düsseldorf in 1947. During the period 1977 to 1992 the race reverted to its original title, the Grosser Preis von Berlin, before its present name was adopted in 1993.

Historical winners of the Deutschland-Preis include Augias, who in 1923 and 1924 was the first repeat winner. In 1928 and 1929, Oleander, became the race's second dual winner and in 1937 it was won by a filly, the great French champion, Corrida. Ticino was the first three-time winner, capturing the race from 1942 through 1944. Mercurius also scored triple wins between 1963 and 1965.

Heinz Jentzsch has the most wins of any trainer with eight.
