[edit] History [1]
[edit] The Beginning (1997-2001)
The band was founded in 1997 under the name Infernal Dream. The line-up started out with Koen Romeijn on Vocals/Guitar, Mike Ferguson on Guitar, and Thomas Kalksma on Drums. At first, the band was considered to be a side project, creating melodic Black/Death-Metal. However, after the first songs were written, the band members realised that this band deserved more than to be just a side project. Despite of this, the band rehearsed only 8 times in the 1st year of existence.
In August 1998 Otto Schimmelpenninck joins the band on Bass-guitar. The bands' name is swiftly changed into Detonation and the studio is entered for the 1st time to record two songs (Life in Hell and Slaying the Serpent) for the Crushed Skull compilation CD. A month later Detonation does its first gig in The Netherlands with death metal band Engorge, Koens' other band.
The Crushed Skull compilation is released in January 1999 through Skull Crusher Records; reviews point out that Detonation is a band with great potential.
In October of that same year, the band enters the studio for the 2nd time, but this time to record their 1st official release, the Mini-CD entitled Lost Euphoria, containing 4 songs, Failure to Commit, Euphoric Loss, Reflection of a Torn Spirit, and Helplessness. These songs show the diversity in song writing that the band has developed along the way, with influences ranging from Death to Black to Thrash metal. January 2000 – Lost Euphoria released Lost Euphoria is released in January 2000 through Skull Crusher Records. Mainly positive reactions were given by magazines, and the following months Detonation is offered the chance to play about 10 shows as support-act of well-known Dutch metal band Orphanage.
The studio is entered again (in March 2001) to record 3 new songs to be released as a promo CD meant primarily for labels and venues. Along the way, Detonations' musical style has changed into a more Trashy approach of melodic Death-Metal. With the Promo CD, the band hopes to catch the interest of a label to release their 1st full length album. Meanwhile, as many gigs are played as possible to establish a good name within the scene.
[edit] The first albums and tours (2002-2005)
After playing numerous gigs, which also included Detonations' 1st show outside Holland (Open Hell fest, Czech Republic), the band decides to record their debut full-length album, entitled An Epic Defiance. The album is recorded within 2 weeks at studio Excess, Rotterdam (Sinister, After Forever, etc...) and contains 12 songs of melodic Death/Thrash metal, and artwork made by Cabin fever media. On the 19th of October 2002 the album is self-released within the Dutch borders.
Detonation finally signs a record-deal with Osmose Productions from France for 3 albums. An Epic Defiance is officially re-released worldwide on CD and limited LP on the 19th of June 2003. In July 2003 Detonation successfully complete their 1st foreign mini-tour, playing 3 shows throughout England. After promoting the album in Holland, the band again heads off to the UK to successfully complete a 10-day tour throughout the country.
In February 2004, Detonation undertake a 13-day European tour as support act for Sweden’s Dimension Zero together with Immemorial from Poland. Well-known venues in Germany, Holland, England, Austria, Italy and Switzerland are being played.
Due to a temporary injury of drummer Thomas his arm in August 2004, the band is forced to recruit a session drummer to continue writing new songs and to play gigs until Thomas recovers. Fedor Tieleman of Dutch band M-90’s is able and willing to for fill this very important task within the band. Also, Detonation continues to create new songs for the upcoming 2nd full length album, due to be released early 2005.
Detonation entered Excess studios once again in December 2004 for the recording of their highly anticipated 2nd full length. The title became Portals to Uphobia, and the album itself contains 10 tracks of high-quality melodic Death/Thrash metal.
The new album is mixed at Excess studios and mastered by Robbe K. from Disavowed. The official released date is set to September 12th and will include a limited-1000 copies-digipak release, including exclusive multimedia footage. After the release Detonation is set to play numerous shows again in Holland and the rest of Europe, and eager to promote the new album the best way they can.
The second european tour is a fact in September 2005. Detonation will tour with Decapitated (Poland), Gorerotted (UK) and DAM (UK). Over 30 gigs are done in England, Scotland, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Italy.

Currently (January 2007) they are preparing their 3rd full-length album aiming for a spring 2007 release. The artwork is this time made by Eliran Kantor . In the end of April / the beginning of May 2007 there is a new tour to the UK planned.
