DET9216
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
DET9216 (previously DCT9034) is a V-Set trailer carriage in the CityRail fleet. DCT 9034 was known as the "Contura Conference Car" and was available for special and corporate hire from CityRail. The carriage had its normal upper deck seats replaced with "lounge" chairs and tables, while the lower deck retained the normal seats (but were the "yellow" type seats as fitted to the later "V" sets). The single deck area also had its seating replaced with a "kitchenette" equipped with a fridge and microwave facilities to serve refreshments on board. While the carriage was not out on hire, it is normally stabled at Flemington Maintenance Centre.
DIM8067 was the leading car involved in the Glenbrook train disaster. Due to a shortage of motor carriages from past accident scrappings, it was decided to rebuild DIM8067, and convert DCT9034 back to a normal intercity carriage by removing the Contura Conference Car facilities. Since DCT9034 was a driving trailer, the driving cab components would be given to DIM8067, and the cab area in DCT9034 will be replaced with ordinary seating, similar to a normal suburban former driving trailer. In addition, no air conditioning was fitted in this area.
To avoid any reference to the accident and insensitivties to the victims of the accident, DIM8067 was re-numbered DIM8020 and DCT9034 would be re-numbered DET9216 as it is no longer a driving trailer. It was intended originally to keep DIM8020 away from the Blue Mountains line, however operational requirements meant that this was not always possible and a solution was to swap DIM8020 and DTM8034 on 2 car set V94 which regularly operates on "The River" (Wyong- St Marys cross regional service which has since been discontinued).
DIM8020 and DET9216 were originally planned to be permanently coupled. However, this was not the case and they have since been separated into different V-Set sets.
