This is a proposed policy which, it is hoped, will change the way in which administrator permissions are revoked on the wiki.

This should be no big deal. - Jimbo Wales
The process of granting adminship is largely done through community consensus, via our Wikipedia:Requests for adminship page. Upon consensus for a user's adminship arising, a bureaucrat will promote the user to an administrator, which gives them the ability to use the delete, block, protect and rollback features; and the reverse features.
- Adminship is granted on the basis of community trust
- Most people who've been around long enough are given administrator rights as a matter of course
- There are no standard criteria nor prerequisites for becoming an administrator
- It is reasonable to assume that some unsuitable users become administrators
