Talk:Desert rat

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interesting.... Since I'm new around here, I don't know what to think. (Or what to say!) I get what you're saying... but maybe its a little too tongue-in-cheek? Roodog2k 18:43, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Well. . . I appreciate you getting my drift. Folks around where I live in the Mojave use the term all the time, so in that respect it's a legitimate article. On the other hand, Desert rats tend to be picked on and looked down upon by some - especially Angelenos - and so I thought I'd submit the article. It can be a term of endearment to others, and a putdown term by some (especially big city types, such as LA types, NYC and Eastern seaboard folks too). I see you are from "Joisey". Maybe you can identify with the Desert rat to some degree here, eh?
The tongue-in-cheekness just adds to the charm of the article, I think.

BTW, welcome to Wikipedia! Glad you're here. --avnative 19:45, Sep 2, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Joisey Kid

Yup... your right about the Jersey thing... this is a very misunderstood place. The butt of too many jokes, albeit most of them justified! Roodog2k 20:21, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I know. . . I have friends there (but no relatives). "Bottom Doggers" of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but (Internet Service Provider) loose change! --avnative 20:37, Sep 2, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Not a joke book

I really don't feel that this is an encyclopedia article, certainly not in its current form. Wikipedia is not a joke book. Rather than putting it through VfD, I've redirected it to the other, more common use of the term. --ALargeElk | Talk 14:20, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
