Dessie Larkin has been a member of Letterkenny Town Council and Donegal County Council since first entering politics in 1999. He took a career break from his job at Unifi to concentrate fully on his role as a public representative. Larkin serves on the following committees:

Cllr. Larkin was the youngest ever chairperson elected to Donegal VEC. He has served as Cathaoirleach of Letterkenny Town Council and twice on the Donegal VEC. He is the first ever chair of the Donegal Sports Partnership and is Deputy-Mayor of Letterkenny. He was educated at St. Eunan's College, Letterkenny,County Donegal, Ireland.
