Desiree Summers

Desiree Summers, (born April 1967) is a fitness guru, best known for founding Desiree Summers' Vessel Fitness and starting various other projects, including the charitable organization, the Vessel Hope Foundation, and the for-profit company Vessel World Media.

[edit] Personal Life
Born and raised in Athens, Georgia and the youngest of 3 children. Desiree Summers' father Maxcy P. Nolan was a Bird Colonel in the U.S. Army and a Professor at the University of Georgia while her mother Myrna, was a caterer supervisor at the University of Georgia.
Desiree Summers is an accomplished jazz, ballet and theatre performer and also skilled in voice and tap. At age ten, Desiree auditioned for “The Nutcracker” and won the leading role as Mary with the Atlanta Ballet. A childhood pastime blossomed in the following years into an intense desire to advance her skills and pursue the performing arts as a career.

After eigth grade, Summers attended Cedar Shoals High School, in Athens, Georgia where she further honed her dancing skills. Prior to high school and through her tutor, Pam Webber, her family realized that she had a learning disability and needed to learn visually and auditorially to grasp the subjects she was learning at the time. Once she realized this, she was able to not only conquer high school, but then receive a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the Oklahoma City University. During college, Desiree was being prepared for a career in the entertainment industry, and radiated in the spotlight. Work and play were one in the same, and within no time, her off-Broadway credits ranged from “Guys and Dolls”, “Oklahoma”, “Grease”, “Chorus Line”, “Camelot”, “Hello Dolly”, and “Cinderella”.

With the pressures of maintaining a petite dance figure, Desiree’s aspiration for perfection moved her into a delicate situation, which led to hospitalization. Analyzing her anxieties and motives allowed her to pick up the pieces and come back even stronger and more inspired. She came to terms with her own weight and eating disorders, and realized that millions of women were going through the same thing, whether it is anorexia or obesity. She became determined to commit her life to health and fitness and thus “Vessel World Media” was born.

Although, Desiree Summers' career did not truly launch until 2005 when she decided founded Vessel World Media. Summers' has said that the true reason for starting Vessel World Media was to became an advocate for a healthy lifestyle motivating women of all ages to combine health, fitness, and faith, to exercise their mind, body and spirit to find true beauty.

In order to reach the millions that are affected daily by this weight epidemic, Desiree began the national and international fitness television show, Desiree Summers' Vessel Fitness, to encourage the public to take time for themselves. She stresses the cascade effect that treating your inner and outer being has on your family, work and life. Desiree gives hope and instruction so that the average woman can attain their best body health for their genetic makeup. In every episode Desiree Summers explores different types of workouts, lifestyle issues and fitness trends assisting viewers in rebuilding and strengthening their Vessel. Desiree teaches the viewer how to workout effectively their way, whether it be aerobics, cycling, weight training, yoga or pilates.
After each workout Desiree either shares an inspirational moment with the viewer or leads the viewer in a cooking segment teaching them how to eat healthy without the food tasting like cardboard. Essentially fine healthy cuisine.

Desiree Summers' Vessel Fitness can be seen in the United States on iLifeTV every Tuesdays at 5:30AM, 8:30AM and 1:30PM EST. Thursdays at 5:30AM and 8:30AM EST. Internationally on INI at 1:30 GMT.

Due to her vision to help and empower women and families in the United States and abroad, in 2007 Desiree Summers will be launching her true passions, the Vessel Hope Foundation, a charitable organization, dedicated to helping all who, as she says, "Needs A Hand Up, Not A Hand Out".

Desiree Summers is currently almost complete writing her first book titled, "Get Your Head Out Of The Refrigerator And Work It Out... A Tongue And Cheek Womans Guide To True Health And Fitness" and currently is the health and fitness writer for the magazines, "Everyday Woman" and "Charlotte Health and Fitness".

One of the results of Summers' founding Vessel World Media has been the blessing of being a speaker at some major events. In December 2006, she spoke at the Massachusetts Conference For Women alongside other speakers like Maya Angelou, Geraldine Laybourne (Founder and CEO of the Oxygen Network), Ian K. Smith, M.D. (from the Celebrity Fit Club television show), Iman (Super Model) and many others in Boston, Massachusetts. In January 2007, Desiree was a main stage speaker at the "Get Hooked On Health Expo" in St. Louis, Missouri, where there were approximately 40,000 people in attendance.
Desiree Summers has also been a guest on ESPN Radio, KSIV Radio in St. Louis, Missouri, Everyday Woman, and many others.
In addition to executive producing, television hosting, writing and business development, Summers' endorses Penta Water, Marika Clothing, Bowflex,WorkoutMusic.com and Podfitness.com.

Summers' says her personal philosophy is pretty simple, "We are not here alone, we need to reach out to others and look beyond ourselves. Basically we were not put on this earth to serve ourselves". Her philosophy ties to her passion of empowering people to better themselves, mind, body and soul.
