Desai

Desai is an Indo-Aryan administrative title derived from the word "Dah Sai" which means ten parts. Desai's were revenue collectors who looked after a region or area on the Ruler's behalf and in return would get ten percent share of revenue. Historically, the Rulers of Gujarat (Western India) were honoured with the title 'Desai'. Desais can now be found all over the Indian Subcontinent and can belong to various castes and communities. The name 'Dizaei' is also commonly found in Iran and Afghanistan . Some of the Notable Desais are :
- Morarji Desai - The late Prime Minister of India.
- Balasaheb Desai - The late Home Minister and Revenue Minister of Maharashtra.
