Deryk Houston is a Canadian multi-media artist based in Victoria British Columbia. He was the subject of a National Film Board documentary called "From Baghdad to Peace Country". In this documentary, released in 2003, Deryk Houston travels to Iraq in 1999 and is witness to the living conditions of the Iraqi people under the UN imposed Economic Sanctions. Inspired and wishing to draw attention to the situation of the Iraqi people he returns to northern British Columbia and creates an art installation utilizing gravel, rocks and hay.
