Derrynoose ward lies in the following administrative areas: Armagh Local Government District; and Newry And Armagh Parliamentary Constituency.
Derrynoose ward falls within the Southern Health and Social Services Board, the Southern Education and Library Board and is classed as Rural according to the Statistical Classification and Delineation of Settlements Report 2005.

On Census Day 29 April 2001 the resident population of Derrynoose ward was 2956. Of this population: 30.1% were under 16 years old and 12.3% were aged 60 and above; 50.6% of the population were male and 49.4% were female; and 84.3% were from a Catholic Community Background and 15.4% were from a 'Protestant and Other Christian (including Christian related)' Community Background.
The average age of the population in Derrynoose ward was 31.1 years, in Armagh LGD it was 35.0 years and for NI it was 35.8 years.
The population density in Derrynoose ward was 0.42 persons per hectare, compared to 0.81 for Armagh LGD and 1.19 for NI.
In Derrynoose ward 34.1% of persons aged 16 and over were single (never married), in Armagh LGD it was 32.3% and for NI 33.1%.
