Derrick LaPoint

Derrick LaPoint is an American born hockey player. He currently is playing for the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL. The defensemen has also committed to play for the University of North Dakota in the WCHA. In the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, LaPoint was selected by the Florida Panthers in the fourth round with the 116th overall pick.
LaPoint attended high school at North High School (Eau Claire, Wisconsin). In his senior season, LaPoint (the team Captian) led his team to the state tournament and was named 2006 Wisconsin State High School Hockey Player of the Year. He finished third on his team in scoring beind Justin Johnson and Ryan Goodmanson.
LaPoint was heavily recruited by the Minnesota Golden Gophers and UND. He plans to play for the Fighting Sioux starting in the fall of 2007.
