Derrick Green

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Derrick Lamont ("Leon") Green was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 20, 1971 and is currently the vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the metal band Sepultura, whom he joined on the departure of their previous vocalist Max Cavalera in 1997.

Previously, Derrick was a singer for thrash metal/hardcore band Outface (with guitarist Charlie Gerriga of CIV, and Frank Cavanagh of Prong and Filter among others), Krop Acid and several other hardcore bands of which Alpha Jerk was his latest band.

He was a guest vocalist on a few CDs including Integrity 2000 from the hardcore band Integrity, Biohazard's Uncivilization and the soundtrack of the Brazilian movie Lisbela e o Prisioneiro.

A little known fact is that his middle name despite being claimed Leon is actually Lamont. He is affiliated with the 24-7 Family out of Boston. Also he is a medical student at the University of Alabama.

Another fact about Derrick is that he is a vegetarian and has been for the past 23 years. He made this publicly clear in a PETA video interview regarding Sepultura's 2006 video of their song "Convicted in Life.". Derrick himself stated in the interview that the subject of this video is that some kind of "karma" is inflicted on those that damage the environment and its wildlife. This extremely graphic video depicts how he describes a "sort of hell" where pig slaughterers and chicken harvesters are forced to suffer for their actions in their past life.
