Derrick Gibson (born March 22, 1979 in Miami, Florida) is an American football player who currently plays safety for the Oakland Raiders. He was selected by the Raiders in the first round (28th overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft.

[edit] Career at Florida State
An all-american at his hometown Miami Killian High School, Gibson was rated the number one prospect in the state of Florida by many analysts. He was a four-year letterman at Florida State University who finished his career with 214 tackles, nine stops for losses, seven interceptions and 16 pass deflections.

Gibson has failed to live up to the hype he had coming out of FSU. In 69 career games, Gibson has started less than half (.464). He has accumulated 159 tackles, three interceptions, two sacks, and 1 forced fumble.

Gibson has been labeled injury prone by many fans and analysts alike, after suffering two season ending injuries (shoulder in 2004, wrist in 2005).
