Derek Forbes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Derek Forbes was the bassist for Simple Minds from the album Life in a Day through to their hit, "Don't You Forget About Me". His departure from the band was due, apparently, to differences in attitude with some of the band's other members.

Forbes' athletic walking basslines were the driving force behind Simple Minds' New Wave period albums. This is most evident on Sons and Fascination. With Sparkle in the Rain, a more standard rock sound supplanted the minimalistic, groove-oriented sound of preceding albums, and Forbes' bass playing took a back seat.

After Simple Minds, Forbes went on to play in number of other bands, including Propaganda. He briefly rejoined Simple Minds for the Neapolis album, and currently he plays in Fourgoodmen, a Scottish New Wave cover band, while maintaining a blog.
