Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe

The Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) is based at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

The post tends to be a senior European military officer who is Deputy to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), who in turn is a U.S. four star general with the dual-hatted role of Commander, U.S. European Command.

1998-2001 General Sir Rupert Smith (UK)
2001-2002 General Dieter Stockmann (Germany)
2002-2004 Admiral Rainer Feist (Germany)
2004-date General Sir John Reith (UK)

From October 2007 the apppointment will be held by Lieutenant General John McColl (UK).[1]
