Department of Electrical and Information Engineering (Ruhuna)

Department of Electrical and Information Engineering (Ruhuna) is one of the four departments of Faculty Of Engineering Ruhuna. The department of Electrical and Information Engineering is the only department in Sri Lanka that offers Electrical, Electronic, Communication, Computer and Information Engineering under one specialisation stream.

Most of the department research activities are still in the undergraduate level. No post-graduate programs offered from the department yet. The two projects from the department won first and second prizes, out of 21 entries, at the recently held Technical Conference 2006 organized by the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) Younger Members’ Section (YMS).

The department has 3 main laboratories namely Electrical Machenes & Power Electronic Laboratory, Electrical Measurements & Electronic Laboratory and Communication & System Engineering Laboratory. In addition to that department has a separate computer resource center from the main computer center at the faculty for specialized applications and research.

Dr. K. Pirapaharan serves as the head of the department. Currently the department has 4 senior lecturer and 13 lecturers. Most of the academic saff are on study leave doing their post graduate degrees.
