Denny Walling

Dennis Martin Walling (born April 17, 1954 in Neptune, New Jersey) is a 6′1″ 185 lb. third-baseman baseball player with an eighteen-year major league career from 1975 to 1992.

Walling played college baseball at Clemson University. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the 1975 amateur draft (Secondary Phase).

Walling opened his Major-League career with 9 games for the Oakland A's in the 1975–1976 season. He was traded to the Houston Astros in 1977 where he spent the prime of his career, pinch hitting and playing first and third base until a trade to the St. Louis Cardinals in late 1988. A Cardinal through 1990, he concluded his career with a season with the Texas Rangers and a three-game return to Houston in 1992.

Nicknamed "Good Wood", Walling was a valuable pinch hitter. Entering the 2006 season, his 108 career pinch hits are tied for 13th all-time. He hit .271 out of 2,945 lifetime at-bats.

He is currently a minor league roving hitting instructor for the Baltimore Orioles.
