Denny Schaffer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Denny Schaffer was, until November 21, 2006, a radio talk show host for 640 WGST in Atlanta, Georgia.

He has done several guest host spots on the nationally syndicated radio talk show "The Glenn Beck Program". Prior to moving to WGST (AM), he broadcast from WSPD in Toledo, Ohio. He was also a DJ for the "Breakfast Club" on WVKS 92.5 FM in Toledo before his stint at WSPD. During the mid-1980s, Schaffer worked at WCZY Z95.5 FM (now WKQI) as "Dancin'" Denny Schaffer, host of the "Z Zoo at Night."

Denny comes to Atlanta from 1370 WSPD Toledo, Ohio. A popular rumor is that before Toledo, the FCC banned Denny from broadcasting in several cities in the union, including Minneapolis, Fresno, Cincinnati, and half a dozen towns in Michigan – including his home town of Flint. None of that is true. Atlanta is the home to Denny, his wife, Sharon, and two children, Olivia and Joshua. His interests include God, family, Michigan football, golf, cigars, and disco. He has moved his show to 680AM The Fan.

On November 21, 2006, Schaffer was fired from WGST-AM because of ClearChannel's restructuring of several of its radio properties. ClearChannel also fired its FM staff and changed one station, 94.9 Lite-FM to a Country line-up, now calling the station "The Bull". A broadcasting agreement with the Atlanta Braves now moves their game broadcast from 96ROCK to The Bull starting in April 2007. The Braves will continue to air on WGST-AM.

Denny is now hosting a talk show on 680 The FAN in Atlanta named "Denny Radio Sports and More" at 10 AM on Saturday mornings.

[edit] Trivia

Schaffer's late uncle Bill Schaffer up in Flint, Michigan owned a music store. One of his clients was Don Brewer, drummer for the band Grand Funk Railroad, who always received his drum equipment from Denny's uncle (Mentioned on Denny's radio show on August 24, 2006.).
