Denki is a Digital Toy company, based in Dundee, Scotland. It was set up in March 2000 by four former members of DMA Design to focus on developing entertainment software for hand-held and mass-market devices such as Game Boy Advance, Interactive Digital Television (iDTV) and Java-enabled mobile phones.
Denki's first product, the innovative puzzle game 'Denki Blocks!' was released in October 2001 and won 'Overall Best Game of the Show' and 'Best Handheld Game of the Show' awards at the European Computer Trade Show in 2001; it was also nominated for a British Academy of Film and Television Arts award in 2002.
'Denki Blocks!' was the first computer game in the world to premier on interactive television through the Sky Television Network and the success of the product on this format (more than 1 million pay-per-play sessions generated in the first 6 months) led Denki to establish a dedicated Interactive Television Division. Their work was recognised by their peers in 2003 when Denki was awarded the Industry Excellence Award from Develop Magazine for their work on emerging platforms.
Since becoming involved with interactive television in 2001, Denki has developed products in a wide variety of game genres; from original puzzle games, such as 'Denki Blocks!' to branded action games, such as 'HULK', as well as reinterpretations of arcade classics such as the legendary 'Pac-Man' and 'Super Breakout'. The ability to produce any game genre or visual style within tight schedules has led to a long working relationship with key broadcasters in the industry, such as Sky Television in the UK.
The company is currently exploring new opportunites in the rapidly maturing Casual Games space where its particular skill set is highly applicable.
