Denis O'Brien (New York Politician)

Denis O'Brien was a politician in New York State who served as New York State Attorney General from 1883 to 1887, and as an Associate Judge of the New York Court of Appeals from 1889 to 1907.

Denis O'Brien was born March 13, 1837 at Ogdensburgh, New York. He was admitted to the bar in 1861[1]. He served as Mayor of Watertown, New York, before being elected Attorney-General of the State of New York in 1883, and re-elected 1885. In 1889 he was elected Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals and re-elected in 1903. He died May 18, 1909 at Watertown. He was father of John F. O'Brien[2] and mentor to John W. Hogan both of whom also served on the New York Court of Appeals.
