Denim (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Denim are the brainchild of the frontman of 1980s post-punk outfit Felt, Lawrence Hayward (more commonly known as just 'Lawrence'). Teaming glam rock with cutting and humorous lyrics, Denim's brash ways differed greatly from Felt. Back in Denim was released in 1992, and was followed up four years later by Denim On Ice, which earned them a support slot with Pulp who were long time fans of Lawrence and his work.

Novelty Rock (a compilation of single tracks with some new material) was released in early 1997. A single, "Summer Smash", was to have been released in the summer of that year, but despite promotional copies being distributed, it was not released - supposedly due to the death of Princess Diana in a car crash the week it should have been in the shops[1]. The next album Denim Take Over never saw the light of day due to lack of commercial success for the band and was shelved indefinitely. However, some of the tracks have been released on a subsequent Lawrence project, the 2005 Go Kart Mozart album Tearing Up The Album Charts.
