Demoutsanata

Demoutsanata (Greek: Δεμουτσανάτα) is a village located 10 km ESE of Argostoli and about 40 km W of Poros in the municipality of Argostoli on the island of Kefalonia. Until the twentieth century, the village was known as Montesanata (Μοντεσανάτα) and was named after Montesano. Demoutsanata is linked with the road linking only to the road linking to Travliata and to Valsamata and Sami and are surrounded by the hills of Omalon with a few hilltops to the south and more to the north, forests lies to the south and the north and are mainly covered with non-pine and some mixed forests, grasslands, pastures, olive groves and farmlands covers the rest, a view of the Krani plain as well as the Argostoli area, Lixouri and parts of Paliki can also be seen.

Much of the population are rural and the main economy is based on agriculture with a few businesses. The income is in the middle range. Much of the population from the mid-20th century left for larger towns and mainly cities. The 1953 Ionian Earthquake destroyed every building in Demoutsanata that took months to rebuilt. The entire population that time as well as other parts of the island were homeless and part of the population left Demoutsanata. The following years, Demoutsanata became linked with the paved roads in the late-20th century. The population dropped to the today's level of 85, in the 1900s, the population used to be in the hundreds as was in other villages.
