Demons (The Demonata)

In Darren Shans The Demonata series, demons play an important part. There is a demon in every book.

Demons are all hideously misformed. Most of them are a combination of creatures from our world, such as Vein, who is a combination of a dog, a crocodile, and a female human. Some are the size of stars, and some are only a few feet long. All of them are deadly, however.

There are thousands of demon universes. They can be created by Demon Masters, but many just flip through existing worlds. In the universes, time works differently. You could spend a day in Lord Loss's universe and come back years later in our universe. Likewise, you could spend a month in a universe and come back an hour after you left.

Everything else also works differently. Magic is much stronger in their universe, so magicians and mages can draw it in and do lots of spells they would be unable to do in our universe. One race of demons lives on a pinnacle of rock that may be suspended in space, or may be balancing on the ground. Either way, it would be impossible here. In one other universe, it is possible to stand on the clouds, in another it s possible to walk on water.
