Elliot Goldenthal scored the soundtrack for the movie Demolition Man; it is a fairly straight forward and almost tounge-in-cheek affair, judging by tracks called "Obligatory Car Chase"; this is not to say however that it is not, like Goldenthal's other soundtracks, original and excitingly experimental. As his second big hollywood movie soundtrack, after the acclaimed Alien³ soundtrack, Goldenthal seems to be honing his action scene skills. It is by far one of his shortest scores; a film like Demolition Man not allowing the 'space' for a deeper and more complex soundscape; although tracks like "Guilty as Charged", an ambient atmospheric peice playing through the main titles over slow shots of the ice-cells and "Tracking Simon Phoenix", a playfull, dissonant track bringing out the dark yet funny observation of Simon Phoenix by the police, are long enough to really affect the films atmosphere. The first track "Dies Irae", playing over the intro of the film with the Hollywood sign burning, is typical Goldenthal with big dramatic, anthemic brass and drums clashing.
