Democracy Alliance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Democracy Alliance is an informal political group consisting of wealthy left-wing U.S. political contributors. The goal of the group is to create a long-lasting infrastructure for the left wing that will allow the Democratic Party to regain its former dominance over politics in the United States. Prominent members include George Soros, Peter B. Lewis, and Hollywood movie director Rob Reiner. The Hudson Institute, a Washington, D.C., think tank held a panel discussion on the Democracy Alliance on November 30, 2006, titled "How Vast The Left Wing Conspiracy." The panelists were journalist Byron York, Democracy Alliance founder Rob Stein, and Democracy Alliance member Gara LaMarche who is Vice President and Director of U.S. Programs for Soros's philanthropy, the Open Society Institute. On December 7, 2006, The philanthropy known as the Atlantic Philanthropies announced that LaMarche would become its president and chief executive officer effective April 2007.[1]
