Democracy is a play by Michael Frayn which premiered at the Royal National Theatre in 2003, directed by Michael Blakemore. It subsequently won the Evening Standard and Critic's Circle awards for Best Play. Democracy played on Broadway in autumn 2004, and has also been staged in Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm.
The play, based in fact, deals with the decision West German chancellor Willy Brandt had to make about exposing the Communist spy Günter Guillaume who worked as his secretary and had heard some of the state's most important secrets.
