Demetra Plakas

Dee Plakas is from Lansing, Illinois. She was born Demetra Plakas in November 09,1960, she grew up in a suburban family near Chicago, the eldest of 3 girls. She joined a punk band called "The Problem Dogs" as their drummer. Rick Radtke was the singer, John Connors played guitar and Al (Algis) Kizys played bass. Although Demetra never played drums before, she purchased a drum set and learned to play as the band practiced in the basement of bass player Algis Kizy's house.
In the thriving Chicago punk scene,The Problem Dogs played sporadic gigs at places like Space Place, and Obanion's. They opened for The Bangles at The Metro. They also released a single "City Hall/ You Are The Knife" following the departure of Al (Algis) Kizys in 1982.
Algis Kizys went to New York and played in bands such as Bag People and The Swans. As a result, the band went through several personel changes. Radtke, Connors and Plakas reformed in Los Angeles as "Pirate Radio" and playing and recording in Los Angeles for a couple of years. In 1987, Rick Radtke disbanded Pirate Radio to pursue Internet related ventures, while Dee Plakas joined the all girl group L7. L7 disbanded in 2001 and Dee is currently married and living in Santa Monica.
