Sited opposite the Delville Wood South African Memorial, Delville Wood cemetery is located just off the D20 that runs between Loungeval and Guillemont (11kms east of Albert), France and contains 5,493 burials of which some two-thirds are unknown. 151 burials are of South African troops. The cemetery comprises burials concentrated from ten (possibly more) Somme battlefield cemeteries (including Bazentin-le-petit, Courcelette, Guillemont, Loungeval, Maricourt and Martinpuch) but mainly from burials of those recovered from the battlefields following the war.
