The Delta Phi Sigma sorority at California State University, Los Angeles was established on April 19, 1991 by seven women. Delta Phi Sigma has not only offered long lasting friendship and sisterhood, but also advocates academic achievement.

The Delta Phi Sigma Mermaid Achievement Award was established in 2003, in recognition of the many years Delta Phi Sigma has provided young women at California State University, Los Angeles the opportunity to excel both academically and personally. One (1) $200.00 award scholarship will be given to one sister of Delta Phi Sigma that best exemplifies our Mission Statement in devoting time and energy to ΔΦΣ and educational responsibilities and obligations. The applicants will be judged on Delta Phi Sigma contributions, community involvement, and essay content.
