Delivered From Distraction
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Delivered From Distraction is a book by psychiatrist Edward (Ned) Hallowell and John Ratey about ADD/ADHD published in 2005. "Delivered From Distraction" is a follow up to Dr. Hallowell's book, "Driven to Distraction" (1994), in which Dr. Hallowell speaks of his own ADD/ADHD, as well as, his treatment, his success, and struggles as a teacher, Doctor, author and speaker. Both books are easy to read, and are meant to be written to "encourage and educate" the ADD afflicted. Both can also be used as guides for the non-ADD "relative", "spouse" or "friend". There are passages about what works for ADD people in general, as well as Dr. Hallowell's personal stories about himself, the people he treats, and where his awareness is with the diagnosis, and treatment of ADD and ADHD.
"Delivered From Distraction" subtitled, "Getting the Most of of Life with Attention Deficit Disorder" is less for the general public, and more to support those already familiar with ADD and ADHD. It gives some helpful hints for educators and the ADD friendly. Unlike, Dr. Hallowell's previous book, "Driven to Distraction" which, is more of a beginner's book. It outlines what ADD is?, What ADHD is?, What the difference is? It also, in a very helpful and clear way, outlines for the reader, the co-morbid conditions, as well as some symptoms and helpful stories. Both are HIGHLY reccomended reading on the subject.
