DeleD

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DeleD is a tool for 3D environments, specialized on level design and static modelling. It is being developed by the small developer team Delgine. At first the editor was developed in the context of the Delgine Game engine. Later the development of the Delgine engine was stopped and the team concentrated on developing their editor DeleD.

From version 1.0 on, there are two variants, the free LITE version and the fee required PRO version, which comes with further lightmapping options and modelling functions. At the moment (March 2006), DeleD is available in version 1.4. It features a wide range of low polygon editing functions, Constructive Solid Geometry and lightmapping. It has a plugin system being used to write import/export plugins for various well known file formats and is supported by an ever growing userbase.

[edit] DeleD as a level editor

DeleD is very well suitable for level Design, since it avails itself like Hammer and other level editors and DeleD possesses export functions for the most usual model and level formats. E.g. 3ds, x or b3d.

The lightmapper renders depending on configuration (only PRO) remarkably detailed Lightmaps which can be used by third party game engines.

[edit] DeleD as a static modeller

DeleD can do a very good service as a modeller of non animated objects such as furniture, barrels, etc. One can convert a model made with DeleD into another format and animate it in another program.
