DeLaSalle High School (Minneapolis)

DeLaSalle High School is a Catholic secondary school on Nicollet Island, an island in the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, Minnesota. With 41% people of color, it is one of the most diverse private schools in the state of Minnesota and draws students from the entire 7-county metropolitan area. Some students have commuted 90 minutes (or more) to attend classes each day.
It was founded in 1900, and has been administered by the Christian Brothers throughout its 107-year history. The school's current president is Br. Michael Collins, F.S.C., DeLaSalle Class of 1955.
It is the only educational institution on an island in the Mississippi River and the only Catholic high school within the actual core city of Minneapolis.
The school has been an academic and athletic powerhouse for generations, amassing more than 50 athletic titles and awards in boys' basketball, football, baseball, cheerleading, swimming and diving and other sports. In 2006 both of the school's basketball teams participated in the MSHSL's boys' and girls' basketball tournaments. The boys' team won the Class AAA title and the girls' team placed 3rd in their first appearance ever. In 2007 The girls' team placed 2nd in the same tournament.
In 2006, after nearly four years of legistlative battles due to the historic nature of Nicollet Island, the school was finally granted permission to construct a 750-seat football stadium and track.
