DeJap Translations

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DeJap Translations is a group of game hackers dedicated to translating Japanese video games into English, by means of applying a patch to a dumped ROM. Founded sometime before February 1998 [1], they are best known for their fan translation work on Tales of Phantasia, Dragon Quest V, Bahamut Lagoon and Star Ocean. In mid-2001, DeJap Translations produced decompressed graphics packs for Star Ocean and Far East of Eden Zero that enabled those games to be played on emulators two years before S-DD1 emulation was achieved [2]

Prominent members include DeJap Translations' founder, Antiriad [J3d!], Dark Force, whom has been described as being the soul behind DeJap [3], and Tomato, who has since become a translator for FUNimation. [4] [5]

As of January 2005, DeJap Translations "is pretty much dead". [6] The official site has been dormant since the end of 2003.
