Deir Yassin, also Dayr Yasin, was an Arab village that was captured by Israel during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. It is most known for the alleged Deir Yassin massacre that took place there, as a result of which the village was de-populated.
In World War I the Ottoman Turks fortified places including the hilltop of Deir Yassin in an attempt to defend Jerusalem.
