Deioces

Deioces, Déjocès or Diyako (709 to 656 B.C.) was the first Aryan king of the Medes, an Iranian people. He united seven Median tribes and became their Judge and leader, beginning in 701 BC. After seven years of rule he resigned, the Medes elected him as king until 665 BC. Deioces built a palace in the capital, Ecbatana, now known as Hamadan. The story of his rise to power is told in book one of The History by Herodotus.
