Talk:Degenerative disease
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Obesity is not a degenerative disease. All the other diseases listed here can hurt a person even if they do everything in their power to avoid it. On the other hand, any person can avoid obesity with proper diet and excise. Although some people may be more genetically predisposed to it, they still have absolute control over their body weight though they may have to work a bit harder to stay skinny. On the other hand, a person can eat healthy, small meals, never smoke, excercise, avoid exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals and still get cancer. Grouping obesity with these other diseases gives obese persons an excuse to remain that way. Anyone obese person can lower their weight to a normal level; it's just a matter of self control. On the other hand, no amount of self control will restore a diabetic to full freedom from self testing, insulin, and strict diet. Obesity in not a degenerative disease.
