Deg Hit’an

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Deg Hit'an (also Deg Xinag, Deg Xit'an, Deg Hitan, Degexit'an, Ingalik, Ingalit, Inkaliten, Inkality, Kaiyuhkhotana) is a group of Athabaskan peoples in Alaska. They reside in Alaska along the Anvik River in Anvik, along the Innoko River in Shageluk, and at Holy Cross along the lower Yukon River. The older name Ingalik and its derivatives are considered offensive to the Deg Hit'an.

Present-day Deg Hit'an people are members of the federally recognized Alaska Native tribes of Anvik Village, Shageluk Native Village, and Holy Cross Village.
