- 1887 – The Gilpin Tramway narrow gauge railroad in Colorado begins operations.[1]
- 1900 – The Ottawa and New York Railway begins operations over the newly constructed bridge crossing the St. Lawrence River.[2]

- 1905 – Long Island Rail Road inaugurates electric operations on the Rockaway Beach Division connecting Far Rockaway and Valley Stream.[3]
- 1940 – The newly rebuilt and expanded station at Rigaud, Quebec, opens.[2]
- 1998 – Canadian National Railway runs its last train in Ottawa; rail service will be taken over in the city on December 13 by the Ottawa Central Railway.[2]
- 2000 – Amtrak's Acela Express service between Boston, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C., is inaugurated.
