Having lived in the UK county of Kent all my life, 4 and a half years ago I decided to make the move along with my 2 youngest children, to a small Spanish village on the Costa Blanca in Spain. Life in Spain was so different to what I expected, that it prompted me to write a book 'Moving to Spain' and post many articles on my own and other websites. Many aspects of 'real life' are never seen by tourists, even those who live here have varied views, depending on their circumstances. Moving to Spain with children and working for a living is totally different from retiring here with a healthy bank balance.
Jobs are hard to come by and most of the British working population are self employed, casual labour or start their own businesses - many of which fail unfortunately.
A friend asked me once if I got fed up with constant sun and missed the changing seasons of the UK. Obviously this friend had never spent a winter in Spain, the sky may be blue by day but its really cold at night and yes we do get snow, and rain.... An older Spanish villa with tiled floors, no central heating and suffering from damp (which is very common), is a far cry from a cosy English cottage with heating & carpets.
In my business which is currently based in Benissa, midway between Calpe and Moraira, I get many clients who are in the process of relocating, and I try to give as much help and advice as possible on the subject.
