[edit] Help
Hello...I'm still trying to figure out how to use this website. Please forgive any editing or technical errors. Thank you, DeBarra
Note: A BIG thank you to whoever is helping to edit and format my page! :)
Please...how do I do a redirect? For example, if the name DeBarra Mayo is put in the search box in lower case, how do I get it to redirect to DeBarra Mayo. I've noticed that I can put lower case names in the search box and it will direct me to the page I want. Thank you, DeBarraKarateLady 23:52, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
What exactly do you want to do a redirect for? Please show the exact words. Tyrenius 09:07, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Own
A nitpicky comment - you refer to this as "my page", perhaps suggesting that you own this entry. If that is the implication, you may be missing the point of Wikipedia. fbb_fan 11:36, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
I would like to know if Wikipedia has any guidelines about whether or not a person should be editing/writing a Wikipedia page about himself/herself. Are there potential conflicts? What about the presumption of impartiality and objectivity? Does anyone know? KarateLady? Fbb fan? Tyrenius? Yournamecouldbehere 17:57, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

- However, as long as the person is working in liaison with other neutral editors, it can be a very good idea, so please help out here. I've been through the article once recently, and I think it's in reasonable shape now. Tyrenius 23:04, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

- From WP:AUTO:
- This guideline in a nutshell:
- Avoid writing or editing articles about yourself, since we all find objectivity especially difficult when we ourselves are concerned. Such articles frequently violate neutrality, verifiability, and notability guidelines. Contribute on the talk page instead. Feel free to correct mistaken or out-of-date facts about yourself.

Yep, I know that one. Do you think there are any particular problems with this article? Tyrenius 05:12, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- Once an article that started out as an autobiography has been thoroughly copyedited by one or more experienced editors with no connection to the article, the result can be just as good and just as NPOV as any other article. TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 06:02, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- Just to clarify - the original statement to which I was responding was "I would like to know if Wikipedia has any guidelines about whether or not a person should be editing/writing a Wikipedia page about himself/herself." As I have already pointed out, there is a guideline in place that has fairly widespread acceptance. fbb_fan 14:14, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Talk pages
Please don't delete material from talk pages. It is important as a record. If a page gets too long it can be archived. Thanks. Tyrenius 05:10, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] References
Please note: a reference in the article should not be just for general information, but to give the source from where a particular statement came and where it can be verified. For example, if someone wins a prize, it is no good linking to general information about that prize. What is needed is a link to a source that verifies the person won the prize. [edit] Early life
This article is missing basic info on date of birth, place of birth and education. Check out other biogs. for format. Tyrenius 08:53, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Won
In 1982, she won the title "Ms. Gold Ring Classic", as well as the "Most Muscular" trophy and a first place for her height and weight class. Which competition(s)? Where?
What are the dates of the 2 books?

[edit] date added and info provided
I have added a date for reference on the Fayetteville Observer paragraph. Here is an online link that shows a thumbnail pic DeBarra Mayo's column on a syndicated page, directly beneath Ann Landers.
I don't know if this is a good link to put on the article or not, so I am putting it here. I don't know if it is appropriate here either, so if it isn't, please tell me why so I will know the rules. I'm still learning the wiki etiquette. Thank you.

- This is exactly what you should be doing. Put anything on here that you think would be useful, with explanatory text. These kind of verifiable links are exactly what we're looking for. The talk page is a workshop for the article. Tyrenius 19:08, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] another link
Here is another link, it is from the Fayetteville Observer article.

Also, I have a question about the email feature. If I enable it does it make my personal email visible to everybody? Or is it only for people on here? Thank you, KarateLadyKarateLady 02:23, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] link didn't work, trying again
http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=FV&p_theme=fv&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&s_dispstring=debarra%20shaw%20AND%20date(all)&p_field_advanced-0=&p_text_advanced-0=("debarra%20shaw")&xcal_numdocs=20&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&xcal_useweights=no
Still didn't work, so instead do this, go to this link, then go to archives and type in search "Debarra Shaw" because it's under the married name. The article comes up, easy to read, but only part of it because they make you pay to see the whole article. www.fayettevillenc.com/
--You have to use the drop down feature "all years" when you do the search. KarateLadyKarateLady 02:53, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] birth place added
