Debre Libanos (Eritrea)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Debre Libanos is the oldest Christian monastery in Eritrea. It was founded by Abba Meta in the early sixth century. A record of a land grant from king Lalibela to Debre Libanos has survived.[1]

Its library holds a number of manuscripts, some written as early as the 1200s. During the Haile Selassie era, many historical artifacts were lost.[2]
