Debbie Macomber

Debbie Macomber (born October 22, 1948) is a best-selling American author of over 100 romance novels and contemporary women's fiction.

Although Debbie Macomber is dyslexic, she was determined to be a writer. She set up a rented typewriter in her kitchen to pound out her first few manuscripts. It took her five years to find a publisher for one of her stories. Success was quick to come after that. Her first novel, Heartsong, was the rifrst romance novel ever to be reviewed in Publishers Weekly. Over sixty million copies of her books are in print throughout the world, and one, This Matter of Marriage, became a made-for-tv-movie in 1998. In her office, located directly above a bookstore and an ice cream parlor, Macomber averages two single-title books and one shorter book each year.
Macomber is a volunteer mentor for young people and prisoners, and is active in fundraising for battered women's shelters and for literacy and medical research. She is also a national board member for Warm-Up America, and was appointed an ambassador for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America national office in 1997.
Macomber and her husband, Wayne, have grown four children and numerous grandchildren. They live in Port Orchard, Washington, where her husband is building his own airplane, and Macomber enjoys knitting and cooking.
