[edit] Wikimedia Canada

Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 04:17, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hermoine1980

I totally agree with her now and I'm not argueing at all and after I saved page about the vote I thought why on earth am I putting this so I pressed the back button until it was gone then switched off the computer; it obviosly didn't work. Sorry about the hassle, you and Hermione have my apologies, also shall we delete the whole heading as it has nothing to do with Harry Potter? One last thing, could you help out at the Harry Potter Wiki? It's a fan club for Harry Potter fans on Wikipedia that I recently joined but where running low on editors for it. To get to Harry Potter Wiki, type Harry Potter Wiki on google and it's the first one that comes up. Thanks. Daniel Omy talk. 18:45, 22 February 2006 (UTC) P.S. You may see that I've changed my signature so it's all colourfull, if you want to know how, just ask me on my talk page.

[edit] Wizard Rock: Talk Page

  • Hi DeathPhoenix I too am a tad confused now..... what happened to my edit? I hacked at the text and removed all the crap (as in my earlier post above on the 21st Feb) after I clicked save on my edit I came straight here to put it on the talk page. I'm now back after a 3 day wikibreak and find no sign of my Feb 21st edit in the history and therefore you ended up having to do the pruning yourself even though I had already stated I had done it (penny has now dropped why you asked what i had pruned). EH? oh well it's all sorted now and good work on the merger. Death Eater Dan 18:39, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Megaman Zero and his forged award

It is okay. Thank you for your apology; I believe this entire situation was an misunderstanding from the start and I am slightly dissapointed Moby brought it to AN/I for review. I really attempt to be honest about everything I do here on wikipedia, and would just appreciate if he had assumed good faith.

That said, I sincerly hope he holds no anomosity towards me any longer, and I am glad that this is cleared up, I dislike having bad relationships with my colleages. Also, I've spied your name around quite a bit, but neglected to actually talk with you. Its nice to meet you. -ZeroTalk 18:05, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fundamentalist atheist AFD...

I'm a bit puzzled at your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fundamentalist atheist as a 'redirect'; it looks like a pretty strong consensus to delete. Alai 08:02, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

It looks somewhat problematic to me. The target article doesn't contain the term at all, making it something of a "mystery redirect"; it only gets about 370 unique google hits (certainly often cited as evidence of a term not being well-known in certain other contexts); one of the "redirects" was specifically conditional on the citation of a scholarly use of the term, which as far as I know, wasn't forthcoming. Also, it should be at the abstract noun, rather than adj/individual noun, if anything. I'm not arguing for nothing but strict vote-counting, but if the well-argued and per-policy opinions for "delete" greatly outnumber the well-argued and per policy opinions for anything else put together... Personally, I'd delete as per about 80% of the original debatees, certainly if there's not a more helpful target for a redirect. If recreation is the main problem, protect as deleted. Alai 16:17, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
Can't say fairer than that; thanks. Alai 18:24, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Closing afd

Greetings! Congratulations on making sense of the awful Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Let's Boogie For Jesus! for which I apologise. Once the {{prod}} had been removed from Let's Boogie for Jesus! I felt they all had to be nominated together, but with hindsight I would have done it somewhat differently. It wasn't helped by a real-life interruption which meant there was a delay between my afd creation and the nomination of the rest of the articles. However, I think you got it just right. Regards, --RobertG ♬ talk 15:55, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

I add my thanks for the Solomonic closing. Carlossuarez46 02:00, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Phoenix

As you know, the reward for doing good work on Wikipedia is .... more work! As Phoenix is now a disambiguation page, it gives me great and perverse joy to assign you and Evilphoenix the joint task of clearing the disambig links to that page, and keeping it link free. Cheers! BD2412 T 04:02, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

I'd just like to chime in here and let you know that I actually disagree with the choice to make Phoenix a disambig page, and I'd like to ask you to offer your opinion as well on Talk:Phoenix. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 05:57, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I saw your edit at this page's talk page. I already sent User:GregAsche a message about this, but it looks like has has gone for the evening (and it seems you have too, for that matter). Based on your comment about an AfD being in order, I'm assuming you don't think the extra page at Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Summary should be speedily deleted. I agree that it doesn't seem to meet WP:CSD, but I wasn't sure if it could be deleted under WP:IAR or WP:UCS. Either way, I have WP:PRODed the page, and I suspect that no one would object to this being deleted. Let me know what you think about this matter, as I'm trying to get a firm grasp of policy in borderline cases such as this. Thanks for all your help! Hi Deathphoenix I've replied on my talk page. I think you may be mistaken - I was not an admin at the time, so I wouldn't dream of closing an AFD. I was being bold as an editor, that's all. [edit] Problem Solution Reaction AFD

May I ask how you reached a "no consensus" from the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Problem Reaction Solution? From my count of the votes 14 deletes and 7 keeps (one being from the author himself) and the user has created his own Wikiproject to try and save his articles from deletion and has also gone around asking people in talk pages for keep votes.--Jersey Devil 04:19, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WP:AN and WP:AN/I

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Genetic origins of the Kurds

  • weak keep 2 (parcticaly neutral)
  • keep 8
    • keep 7
    • strong keep 1
  • delete 9
    • delete 2
    • strong delete 7
  • merge 1
  • move to wikispecies 1 (by me rather sarcasticaly)

I dont ever complain about AfDs and this will be the first time. I was wondering if you could reconsider.

Article dictates or attempts to dictate ethnicity (something cultural) based on genes which in my view is out right racism.

[edit] University of South Carolina

Hi, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind lending your opinion to a content dispute that I am currently involved in on University of South Carolina. USC has a strong athletic rivalry with Clemson University. I feel that the athletics section of the article should discuss this rivalry, and I feel that this discussion should include a reference to the overall record between the two schools in various major sports. Other editors have disagreed, and feel that the record should not be mentioned. As it happens, Clemson leads in two of the discussed sports and USC leads in the third. I would appreciate it if you would consider lending your opinion on this issue on Talk:University of South Carolina. Thanks! Ëvilphoenix Burn! 00:43, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your participation in the discussion. However, an anon has removed the section that deals with the rivalry and the record of the rivalry. I maintain this section should be left in the article, however I don't wish to personally continue edit warring. I was wondering if you would consider visiting the discussion again, and if you would consider replacing the information in the article? Thank you again, and I greatly value your contribution to this discussion. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 23:04, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] you deleted "parys sylver" may i ask why

He beyond notable... I really don't understand why.

Due the change in his career and the fact that people couldn't be sure that he was actually in the Film Freedom Writers i think it's safe to say that he should have another article made. He has his own IMDB 1, the name "Parys Sylver" now get's over 12,000 google hits 2 He is working on a book about The Hayden Christensen and Trevor Blumas connection 3. He is indeed bigger than other people who have articles. Such as [Staylefish] which i have noticed also has and article.

[edit] Death Eater link in Bellatrix Lestrange

I understand that you prefer the manner in which you rendered [[Death Eater]]s. As for the idea that one way is more aesthetically pleasing than the other, I find that foolish. My edit was simply intended to bring the link in line with the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links)#Form, which dictates that a redirect, in this case, is unnecessary. Hi Deathphoenix, I notice from some of the histories that you have contributed at some point to various David Eddings articles/discussions. So I just thought i'd point out to you the changes I have made to The Elenium. I would value your opinion, as I am slowly (very slowly, not enough time) trying to improve that and other Eddings articles further as they dont seem to have been getting alot of constructive input lately and most of them are pretty poor stubs. Anyway thanks, Death Eater Dan (Muahaha) 08:45, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the help, one more concern.

Hey, thanks for the help in regards to putting the article in my userspace... I'm curious as to whether my concerns regarding the fact that the article "Josh_Wolf" is a redirect to the Soccer player, "Josh Wolff" While I am perhaps not notable to warrent an entry into wikipedia, I do feel that I ought not to be relegated to the realm of an assumed typo regarding a soccer player. Your thoughts on this matter would be appreciated. Joshwolf 05:45, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

I've pulled out my personal Barnstar for you. I started giving these out to new Admins in CVU when I was more active in it a few months ago. There was a fun moment where I gave Drini one, then Titoxd (back during my days as an honorary member of the Mexi-Cabal, having not yet incorporated the Phoenix Cabal (subset of the Potter Cabal (shouts to Hermione1980))) got one. Then Essjay wandered in and stole Drini's Flamethrower +7 and put it on his own page, so since he wanted one, I gave him a Flamethrower -3, which was a photo of a match. It was a good day. If I weren't lazy I'd look up the diffs for you. Either way, you deserve it. Cheers! Ëvilphoenix Burn! 06:20, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Catching up

Hey DP! I see you are on semi-Wikibreak — so it may be some time until you find this message. I knew I hadn't seen you around much at RfA, but had thought that it was just a coincidence that you hadn't been editing there. First, and most importantly (and a little late), I'd like to thank you for your kind words on my RfB. I decided to withdraw when it was halfway through with a consensus of ~55% (<sigh> the other time around I got canned at the end with a consensus of 80%...); I was also wondering: why did you decide to leave Esperanza? I was checking it today, thinking of joining, and when I saw your name in the list of former members, that got me thinking: why would DP decide to leave this? Is there anything I should know before thinking of joining?? And come back soon! Your friend, Redux 01:43, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Wow, that was quick! Nice to have you back, even if just part-time! Indeed, in my previous RfB I had received a considerably higher support when it was half way through, and, which is perhaps even more relevant when one needs consensus of 90%, a lot less opposition — that's really why I withdrew: although it was possible that I'd receive a lot more support in the four days I had left in my RfB, given the number of oppose votes already in, it would have been very, very difficult to attain the consensus necessary (I'd need ~150 supporting users, provided no one else opposed for the remainder of the time). Something must have jinxed me ;)... But once we've taken over the world, I'll just make myself über-Bureaucrat of all the wikis, and my army of sysops shall make me invincible!! [pause to breathe]
Interesting what you said about Esperanza. It's got me wondering what exactly would I have to offer the project as well, apart from adding my name to a list. Not even my services as an Admin are really necessary, since there are already plenty of Admins on the list.
But going back to where I can be of some use, I hope I'll see you at RfA, and I've also been meaning to go back to the Barnstar project — I imagine by now there must be lots of archiving to be done there. Thanks for the e-mail note, btw. And I've just set up an account for use on the project, although I haven't registered it yet. You'll be the first here to get it: reduxwikipedia at ig dot com dot br (just replace the words in italics with the actual symbols). Feel free to drop me a line there sometime! Hi, Deathphoenix. Is it sure that Andromeda Black was in Slytherin? Ahh, In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Book, Professor Slughorn(Potion Master, Head of Slytherin) told Harry that Rest of Black family were in Slytherin except Sirius Black(Gryffindor). I think Her house was Slytherin from Black family. Ahh there is also evidence about her house in the article Nymphadora Tonks's talk page. Anyways, Thanks for the message. [edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Italian-American Neighborhoods

Hi Deathphoenix. I was curious about the closing of this AfD. I know the wording was somewhat confusing, but the majority of editors actually supported keeping the article, and merging the list at Italian-Americans TO this page. I understand that it's not a vote and that the consensus is up to the closing admin, but perhaps this is just a case of misreading the comments (I know I did the first time around). Let me know what you think. EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 01:50, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jung Sin Yuk-Do

Looks like i'm not the only one wondering about the closing of a recent AfD :) I don't have a huge stake in the article or anything... before today i've never even saw the article, but I do have to wonder how you came to the conclusion to close the AfD through a "no consensus" especially as a clear majority voted to delete the article because of lack of notability (4 to 1). I'm wondering if somehow you weren't thrown off by seeing that the only person who voted to "Keep" (User:Bacmac) the article voted 3 times to Keep and added 4 "Comments" which makes the AfD look like its being debated back and forth by several editors for the article. Anyhow, like I said, I'm just curious, sincerly, i'm not being sarcastic, haha, i don't really have anything to gain with the article being deleted or kept one way or the other. Ok well... thanks--Adrift* 02:27, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey no problem. I figured it could get confusing.--Adrift* 02:32, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Oops, I meant BMurray, apparently you figured it out (sorry Bacmac wherever you are).--Adrift* 02:36, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

My pleasure--Adrift* 03:37, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Heavy metal in Islamic countries

What was the consensus? -- - K a s h Talk | email 11:27, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

I don't understand, can you explain how many votes were for which? -- - K a s h Talk | email 12:54, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
I dont agree at ALL. How was the consensus keep? how did "The result of the debate was Keep." I dont agree with your decision at all. How did you come in to that decision? -- - K a s h Talk | email 14:02, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Lol so the votes are the same, there should be "no consensus" not "result of the debate was keep" -- - K a s h Talk | email 14:21, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Interesting. Well, thanks for your clarification, but sadly this is just stupid I can't believe some people didn't bother to read the nomination and just voted Keep for the sake of it.-- - K a s h Talk | email 14:55, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shikari

Why the AFD reversal? It was 4:2, and none of the incoming links are aimed at any extant article other than the comics character (and one's a dicdef going to a redirect (against WP:D guidelines) and one's a band that any reference to can go under {{db-band}} - SoM 17:23, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Focus-Metaphor article deletion

Hi, could please reason your decision to delete the article on the "Focus-Metaphor" ? Have you read the discussion completely?

I cannot really understand how you decided to delete this. Early "delete" votes in the discussion were based on an early version of the article which has been adapted/altered to meet the requirements set by wikipedia.

By the end of the discussion it should have come more cleary that this is a worthy article for wikipedia.

Please reason your decision. I also would like to make the comment that I cannot really understand how people can judge the deletion of such an article who have no understanding of the topic what so ever. Clearly, an article describing a novel scientific method in computer science can not really be judged by e.g. a 16 year old. Basing a decision for deletion of an article on people's decisions who just vote for the sake of it is not really fair in my opinion. Moreoever again, these votes were based on an early version that has been changed to fit to wikipedia policies.

Please feel free to reply to my email as well. thanks, Sven laqua. (email: slaqua@gmail.com)--Slaqua 00:17, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Plank cricket

Hi Xaxafrad, I know you're trying to be helpful, but please do not merge content to other articles while an AfD is in progress. The consensus turned out to be a delete, and since you merged content, it would violate GFDL to do so. I will now have to delete the Street cricket article and selectively restore all but your edits. This is going to be very difficult to do. Please take a look here for a list of things you can do while an article is undergoing an AfD. Thanks, Deathphoenix ʕ 15:06, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for the misconduct. I'll refrain from bold actions like that in the future. I guess I'm more of an inclusionist. So, since the consensus was for "delete", what's this business about violating the GFDL? How does one violate the GFDL by deleting content that was moved from one article to another? You could've just deleted the list item and two references that I added to street cricket. Maybe it was too much work for you to look at the history and compare the differences I made. I would've fixed it myself if you had asked (apparently, somewhere between one half and two thirds of wikipedians would rather tell somebody what they did wrong, rather than just fixing the problem; you're the first person to do something to the edits I made, rather than simply sending me a message about what I should do to fix the bad changes I made).
Why did you have to delete the whole street cricket article because I merged in content which should've been deleted? "Selectively restore"? I haven't heard that phrase thrown around wikipedia yet. Does that mean you compared the differences between all the edits made since my edit, and then reinstated the genuine, non-vandal edits? In my efforts to figure out what you did, it seems you covered your tracks pretty well (at least, this newbie can't find the bread crumbs). The history for street cricket seems to be corrupted. Neither my edits, nor your deletes and restorations can be found.
What, exactly, did you do?
Xaxafrad 02:23, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I was slightly confused, but it made sense after reading it a couple more times. That's some really subtle stuff. I'm still learning the ropes on the whole "references" issue. Yeah, that whole delete thing is too heavy-handed in my perception. Purge nothing. It's always good to be able to flip through history pages and be able to reference something that happened before (damn faulty neural memory). Or maybe not. Anyway, I'll just keep a ten foot pole between me and broad content changes from now on. Xaxafrad 04:06, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please include your reasoning on AfD for Valenzetti

Hello:

Could you please provide your thinking process in saying "no consensus" on Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Valenzetti?

By my count, there are 12 Deletes: Ilyrch, Fluit, Kimchi, Jtrost, Kevin, Leflyman, 195.173.23.111, Arru, Amalas, FCYTravis, Stevage, Hahnchen

  • 195.173.23.111 may be counted, as shows extensive edit history, particular in Lost-related topics
  • Additionally, while not stating a specific recommendation, Barno wrote, "WP:NOT a fansite to "let 'losties' have their fun." See also WP:FICT"

to 5 Keeps (Coffeeboy, Timwi, Dreadpiratetif, agapetos angel, ArgentiumOutlaw)

  • One unsigned "keep" came from 199.26.230.102, which should not be counted, as showing few recent edits and none in the subject area

That seems a pretty clear consensus to delete. —LeflymanTalk 17:17, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm not sure where you find the requirement of 80% to delete. The Deletion guidelines for administration has no numerical requirement, but call for a rough consensus: "The Administrators necessarily must use their best judgment, attempting to be as impartial as is possible for a fallible human, to determine when rough consensus has been reached." There was some discussion of a suggested 75% on the Wikipedia_talk:Deletion_guidelines_for_administrators but that was never incorporated into the guideline. I understand that AfD is not a vote, per se; however, the consensus is (to the fallible human that I am) that "Valenzetti" is not an appropriate or notable article for Wikipedia. The AfD discussion was not necessarily about the content of the article, but the topic.
Thanks also for removing the promotional aspects. as you note, the article is now basically a stub; that's the sum length it will ever be, as "Valenzetti" is not a character on Lost, per se: he is fictional scientist claimed to be the subject of a fictional book by the fictional author "Gary Troup" of a tie-in novel "Bad Twin", which has been incorporated into the alternate reality game The Lost Experience. The name "Valenzetti" has a mention on a fictional promotional Web site, http://www.garytroupbooks.com. That's a whole lotta fiction! The only place it might be merged into is Bad Twin, which if you think is appropriate, I can do so. —LeflymanTalk 17:55, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi, again; yes, that's the reason I was asking: there's no listed numerical cut-off for consensus, so I was wondering where you derived the 80% from. I've not seen such a "historical number" claimed before. thanks, —LeflymanTalk 18:07, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Brownian Motion Ultimate AfD

You recently shut down the Brownian Motion AfD page, citing no concensus because of a 2:1 ratio in favor of deleting (after discount anons, first time posters, etc.). However, by my count, after discounting anons and first time posters, there were 7 votes for keep and 6 votes for delete, which would seem to not be no concensus but a definitive vote for keep. If this is truly the case, I would appreciate that the debate result reflect this in case an attempt is made in the future to delete the article again. Below is my count on the votes:

Voted delete:

Voted keep:

[edit] True Torah Jews

Hi, how come you deleted the page wile the discussion is still going on ?

Bloger 17:49, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

You yourself say “at least” one week and I think that if the discussion is going on it should be granted more time.

After all, you did not participate in the debate and other editors are still debating it.

Bloger 17:58, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Ok I guess I have no choice although I still feel an ongoing debate should be given more time.

Nevertheless, if I get new material to satisfy the concerns of the editors can I represent it?

Bloger 18:15, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the help.

I will post my response to another editor with the content you requested

The TTJ is regularly featured in the two Yiddish newspapers “Der Yid” and “Der Blot” that are the official newspapers of the two satmar factions (the Aron’s and Zalmons) and for that matter the most notable Yiddish newspaper with a combined readership of tens of thousands (not counting the forward which is considered modern by a lot of Hassidic Jews) .The question is would it be considered a verification of TTJ works and structure if it is spelled out in the above newspapers?

If yes, I would be more than glad to present such writings and let the Yiddish speaking and reading editors here, confirm the content.

However I would need more time to do just that, since they don’t publish the newspaper on the web I would need to contact them, go to there office and get a hold of the articles.

Bloger 20:54, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

I didn’t mean confirmation on the existence the existence is a well known fact I meant the content since it’s written in Yiddish

Bloger 21:05, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

The TTJ wasn’t demised out of having info it was dismissed out of leak of info

Bloger 21:13, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

What’s the process than?

Is it also for seven days?

And how do I make sure that the participants that took part till now do it again? Or is it not necessary

Bloger 21:19, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much I’ll try getting it and we’ll talk

[edit] An Esperanzan Stopping by...

I just read your statement of frustration about AfDs...and wanted to say that I hear ya! I find the whole process of AfD challenging at times even from a basic user stance. Just know that you are appreciated. Peace, Kukini 18:10, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

No problemo. Have a great day! Kukini 18:15, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RfA Thank You!

Thanks Deathphoenix,

I am honored by your support in my recent successful request for adminship. As an administrator, I am your servant, ready to help however I can. (In your case, since you've had the tools longer than I, my best use might be menial labor!) My talk page is always open; should you need anything, or should you see me making a mistake -- probably a common occurrence -- please do let me know. I will depend on the good sense of the community to keep me from making a complete fool of myself! :) In gratitude, Xoloz 15:48, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
