The death of Nicholas Flamel is confirmed in The Half Blooded Prince. I have added him to the list of deaths for that book. Should he be moved to the end of Philosopher's Stone? Or off the list entirely since he died of natural causes? --MrBawn 01:26, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

Shouldn't this page be renamed People who have died in the Harry Potter series? Not all of the people listed were killed. Bart133 (t) 03:22, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Actually, they all were killed, with the exception of those kissed by Dementors, and that pretty much counts as being killed. --Alex Nisnevich 03:41, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Characters "brought back to life"

Even with magic, it is impossible to bring someone back to life. And most of the people listed as dieing didn't actually die in the first place:

  • Harry Potter - He was close to dieing, but Fawkes' tears saved him before he was killed.
  • Tom Riddle - He wasn't exactly killed. If anything, it is part of Voldemort being killed.
  • Buckbeak and Sirius Black - If you look at the way JKR writes it, they were never killed in the first place. Though they are only saved with the Time Turner, for Buckbeak Harry only hears MacNair's axe going down in anger, and for Sirius they leave the hospital wing before the dementors arrive.

I agree, so have deleted them. --drak2 22:17, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
In the light of Sonic's comment ("Even with magic, it is impossible to bring someone back to life."), I think the sentence "A * indicates a character who dies but is brought back to life and/or appears later in the series in some way." from the article itself should be removed. I'll do so, but please state if you disagree --Jotomicron | talk 22:38, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Format

I don't really like this list a lot becuase it isn't very intuitive. And the spolier warning is not really noticed by distracted persons. I think that we should either make each title a head or else tablefy it. --Jotomicron | talk 22:50, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Done. Alex Nisnevich 00:46, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Dementor's Kiss

I don't really think that people who have had their soul sucked out by a dementor (Barty Crouch Jr.) should be on this list, as they are still alive. I made the appropriate notation next to Crouch, but I thought I would discuss the idea of removing him completely before just doing it. Does anyone agree with me? Maybe just leaving the comment next to it is enough. Kharmini91 01:35, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

I think we should move this list to a more appropraite title, such as, maybe Deaths in the Harry Potter series with only the mst important ones in there. So we could then add Other Deaths (like Myrtle, Flamel, the Potters), and sort by the way they died: killed, kissed by dementor... I don't know, just a though. --Jotomicron | talk 01:47, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Animals

There are 3 options for animals: 1, all animals are listed (including the spider the fake Moody killed in class). 2, Animals with proper names are listed (Aragog). 3, this page should be called People Who Died.... --Epl18 20 July, 2005

I think we should use the second option. --Alex Nisnevich (talk) 20:51, 22 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Redundant?

I'm sure there will be some disagreement, but this article seems a little ridiculous when each individual book already has a plot summary in its article. Do we really need a page exclusively for this? Considering this type of page isn't made for every other important book series, this seems like a case of fans going a little too far.

I agree. There's not much point in having this page. Didn't a similar page exist some time ago, and people are discussing about wether it should be deleted, since it serves no purpose other than spoiling who died? Why not let's just remove this.. --Mithcoriel 17:29, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] This is sure to get deleted

For failing WP:NOT -> Plot summaries. That is an article discussing only plot or plot elements has no place on wikipedia encylopedia unless it is major information it should not have its own article. The majortiy of deathers here are very minor and the major ones are already mentioned in the plot summaries of this book. A proposal for deletion will be pending soon pending discussion/intentions--Dacium 08:57, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
