The Deathskulls
Hardcore Punks from Southend, Essex.
Formed in 2003 as a four piece the Deathskulls consisted of the cream of the crop of South Essex's Hardcore Punks: -
Mad John providing no nonsense, guttural vocals and angry guitar. Dave Skull brought old school Punk vibe with his image, vocals and guitar. Mark Dobskull kindly supplied some angry vocals and even angrier bass. Niki Nailbomb to this day beats the drum and provides an Oi-ish element to the music.
Being stalwarts of the Hardcore/Punk Scene it was not long before Deathskulls - We Will Win C.D. was released in 2003. Following shortly was the split 7" with Wives of Seth and a split C.D. with Shackle Me Not. Finally in 2006 after nearly a year and a half in production the album The Real Deal was released to some hardcore reviews from top music magazines such as Metal Hammer, Kerrang and Terrorizer. They also had the chance to have a single sold with Rocksound in a special edition that was available in H.M.V stores.
In 2006 Mark amicably left the line up shortly followed by Dave Skull.
After Mark left, Aaron joined and the group enjoyed a brief tour of Sweden. Due to this heavy going tour though, Dave Skull decided to leave the band and so far they have been accepted as a 3 piece which they wish to remain as, for the foreseeable future.
All members have played in other Essex and also national bands such as T.I.T.S, Operation Nailbomb, Ex-Cathedra, Unite, Flyblown and Suicide Bid.
The image the groups portrays is a nonchalant, unassuming and extremely modest one. It seems that without even trying they achieve relative success in their field and respect from nearly all fractions in the Punk genre (although they would never admit this). Their stage presence is one of sheer awe inspiring terror to the unsuspecting spectator as although they have no theatrical performance or gimmick to their gigs they grab the essence of Hardcore Punk beat it up and throw it at you without batting an eyelid.
The main theme running through the band is their strong patriotism towards Southend. Even with a song called Essex Style (a popular choice at local gigs) and a strong support for Championship side Southend United the band are accepted everywhere they go (apart perhaps from Col U home town - Colchester).
