Deathlike Silence Productions

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Deathlike Silence Productions was an Oslo, Norway based independent record label founded in the late 1980s that focused primarily on black metal. It was the first independent label to do so. The label was founded by Øystein Aarseth, also known as Euronymous, who operated the label until his murder in 1993. The name was derived from the Sodom song "Deathlike Silence" (from their 1986 release Obsessed by Cruelty). At first, the label only signed Norwegian acts, but Aarseth would go on to broaded the scope to other countries such as Sweden during its final years.

[edit] Dispute with Burzum

Varg Vikernes had viewed Aarseth as somewhat incompetent since Aarseth had made a mistake on Burzum's self-titled debut: on the DSP release, the second song appears as "Ea, Lord of the Deeps" instead of correct "Ea, Lord of the Depths", though it should be noted upon reviewing the first Burzum album, during "Ea, Lord of the Depths", Vikernes screams Ea Lord of the Deep over and over, it is listed in the lyrics as this as well, which may explain why Euronymous chose to list it as stated above.
